A Sweet Treat for Any Occasion

Serves: 6

Ingredients

  • 2 large crisp apples (like Honeycrisp or Granny Smith), thinly sliced

  • 1 tbsp lemon juice

  • 1½ tbsp maple syrup or coconut sugar (adjust to taste)

  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon

  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

  • Pinch of sea salt

Almond Crust

  • 1½ cups almond flour

  • 2 tbsp coconut oil, melted

  • 1 egg (or flax egg for vegan)

  • 1 tbsp maple syrup (optional, for subtle sweetness)

  • Pinch of sea salt

To Finish

  • 1 tbsp sliced almonds

  • Optional: dusting of powdered coconut sugar or a drizzle of extra maple syrup

Instructions

Prepare the Crust

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

  2. In a bowl, mix the almond flour, melted coconut oil, egg, maple syrup (if using), and a pinch of salt. Combine until a soft dough forms.

  3. Press the dough evenly into the bottom and sides of a 9-inch tart pan or pie dish lined with parchment paper.

Prepare the Apples

  1. In a separate bowl, toss the apple slices with lemon juice, maple syrup or coconut sugar, ground cinnamon, vanilla extract, and a pinch of sea salt. This mixture will enhance the natural sweetness of the apples.

Assemble the Tart

  1. Arrange the apple slices in a circular pattern over the crust. Be creative!

  2. Sprinkle the sliced almonds on top for added crunch.

Bake the Tart

  1. Place the tart in the preheated oven.

  2. Bake for 28–32 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the edges of the crust are golden brown.

Serve

  1. Once baked, let the tart cool slightly.

  2. Serve warm or at room temperature. For an extra touch, dust with powdered coconut sugar or drizzle with a bit of maple syrup before serving.

Chef’s Tips

  • This tart is intentionally not overly sweet. Taste your apples first and adjust the maple syrup or coconut sugar to your liking.

  • For an extra flavor boost, consider adding a pinch of cardamom or nutmeg to the apple mixture.

  • Serve with a dollop of coconut yogurt or a scoop of lemon sorbet for a refreshing finish.
